Poor Clares live by the liturgy, so the last few weeks we have been pondering the coming of Christ in glory at the end of time. Any time is a good time to reflect on the actual ending of time, but this year is especially good when the news seems particularly apocalyptic! Even now, when we have entered into the Advent Season which we usually associate with our proximate preparations for Christmas, our thoughts remain with the second coming of the Lord rather than with His first. How truly comforting it is to know that someday, " judgement shall again be just". Amid all the confusion of these dark times we can be confident that a King will come who will set things right. Evil will be destroyed and the "last enemy to be destroyed is death".Meanwhile, we go about our blessed business of living out the Gospel of love and peace. Right now we are engaged in our gift making projects for each other. St. Nicholas' feast is our traditional time for gift exchange, though this year his day falls on a Sunday so this celebration will be transferred.
We also remember all of our good friends in our prayers who are always giving to us throughout the year. Our prayer is our gift to them and to the whole suffering world. May the hope of eternal joy lighten the burden of those weighed down by illness or worry. No matter how bad it gets, God is with us and He will see us through to the end.
